Pinksteren, Opwekking en veelkleurig getuigen

Veelkleurig getuigen was het thema van wel een heel bijzondere viering op zaterdagmiddag tijdens de Opwekkingsconferentie

Zaterdag maakten duizenden christenen in een ongekende diversiteit het multiculturele gezicht van de kerk in Nederland zichtbaar. In een kleurrijke viering werd stilgestaan bij het feit dat een eeuw geleden de eerste wereldzendingsconferentie in Edinburgh werd gehouden. Was de kerk in ons land in 1910 vrijwel geheel blank, nu zetten migrantenchristenen de toon.

Al meer dan 35 jaar komen we tijdens de pinksterdagen naar de Opwekkingsconferentie.Toen de kinderen nog klein waren, sloegen we wel eens een jaar over of kwamen we een dag, maar meestal stonden we er het hele weekend met een tent of een caravan. Nu de kinderen de deur uit zijn vullen we het weer wat vrijer in. Na onze vakantie naar Israel hebben we ons dit jaar beperkt tot een dagje; met de fietsen op de auto naar Elburg, een kwartiertje fietsen en je kunt je vrij bewegen over het hele terrein.

We doken midden in het veelkleurige programma met een preek van Tom Marfo een Nigeriaan, vertaald door Otto de Bruine, die hersteld van een zware ziekte, zittend op het podium moeite had om de rad sprekende broeder te volgen. Liturgisch was deze viering door vijf verschillende groepen voorbereid wat resulteerde in een dienst die ook in een PKN-kerk heel goed zou passen. Het doet in de context van Opwekking vreemd aan als gebeden vanaf papier worden voorgelezen, maar daarmee wordt wel extra bestempeld dat ook het kerkelijk palet veelkleuriger geworden is.

Tom wist met veel enthousiasme de vierders van 100 jaar zending er op te wijzen, dat we af moeten van de hang naar korte termijn succes en bereid moeten zijn om te wachten op de Geest van de Vader, de belofte, die Jezus ons met Pinksteren heeft gegeven.

Toen ik in 1974 met mijn studiejaar een week in London was heb ik een Pinkestergemeente bezocht, die toentertijd al bezocht werd door meer dan dertig nationaliteiten. Nu komen we in Amsterdam misschien wel dertig verschillende migrantengemeenten tegen. Elk spreekt een eigen taal, maar taal is - om met André Rouvoet te spreken - niet het enige waar we eenheid in kunnen belijden. Een bezoek aan een gemeente van mensen met een andere taal toch dat warme gevoel van eenheid en herkenning geven. Gods Geest, die in en door ons Abba Vader zegt!

"Pinksteren is verlangen en ontvangen" werd ons vanmorgen in de EGS meegegeven. Wat mooi dat Gods Geest geen diploma vraagt van degene, die dat verlangen heeft. Hij of zij mag eenvoudig ontvangen!

We staan aan de vooravond van Kamerverkiezingen en in november mogen we in SúdwestFryslân de gemeenteraad vullen. De landelijke gebedsbeweging "Op de Bres" bidt dat er meer christenen dan voorheen deel zullen nemen aan politiek. Ook dat is een goed verlangen. Nog mooier wordt het als deze christenen ook een verwachtingsvol leven leiden dat gericht is op de Geest, die Christus in ons en ons land wil openbaren. Wat we nodig hebben is wijsheid. God roept ons op als kinderen eenvoudig om de wijshied van Zijn Geest te vragen en Hij zal die geven zo zeker een vader zijn kinderen brood zal geven.
